Last Saturday the GGM, NFP had their screening of the documentary “Fresh.” For those who couldn’t make it and would like to see the film, please contact us at info [at] genevagreenmarket [dot] org to set up a screening for smaller audiences.
This movie will put a smile on your face with the understanding of how the conventional agribusiness machine works, because you will know you don’t have to be any part of it. The hope and inspiration will have a lasting impression. For our health, our children and our future. I highly recommend the whole family come, watch and be inspired. Karen Stark, Geneva Green Market, NFP
The screening is for the purpose of educating the general public on the importance of eating healthier, locally grown food. Those in attendance will learn why this is such an important movement and how they can participate.

Mission Statement
Geneva Green Market, a non-for profit distributional and educational association which:
Promotes the sale of locally produced products from local family farms and local food producers who provide freshness, biodiversity, the highest quality organic/sustainable food and the basis of regional cuisine.
Provides an educational forum for consumers to learn the uses and benefits of quality, locally grown or prepared food products. To establish an appreciation of nutritional value of produce and to provide more flavor, freshness and variety of locally grown product.
Preserves the environment for future generations while improving the quality of food.
Supports a partnership between local chefs, farmers, producers and merchants to mutually enhance, develop, and promote the local food economy.
Promotes the green community, and become the town crier of the events of the Fox River Valley.
Creates partnerships with other non-for profits organizations that promote green living, preservation of our natural resources, gardening information, and other aligned interests.
Thus far the Geneva Green Market, NFP is entirely run by volunteers. Unlike other farmers’ markets, we only charge our vendors a minimal donation fee that goes towards necessary expenses. This helps our vendors remain economically viable. In time we hope to build up membership enough to support a salaried market manager position to help the Geneva Green Market run smoothly for years to come. Serving on the board of directors for the Geneva Green Market, NFP are Karen Start, president, Connie Weaver, co-founder, Georgine Bosak, treasurer, Diana Morin, secretary, Trisha Margulies, member, Ted Richter, farmer, Beth Propst, farmer, Jennifer Downing, chef, Jennifer Echert, member. This not-for-profit group of volunteers seeks to educate and support the community in their efforts to eat locally.
LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, has become the defacto vocabulary for green building discussions and the LEED green building rating systems provide a straightforward methodology for verifying the level of green of a building. This session is intended for those who want to take a crash course in the most easily achieved LEED points based on historic data at USGBC. This session will help in various project situations — for the owner who wants to quickly become a bit grounded in LEED for a first project meeting with an architect or contractor, or for a designer or contractor who is part of a LEED project, but has little background.

The Kane County Chronicle covered the record turnout of community support and enthusiasm for the opening day of the Geneva Green Market in the Fox River Valley with a cover story in the June 27 edition entitled “Geneva Green Market a Big Hit“:
… By the end of his 30-minute demonstration, Lycan paired the scallops he brought with arugula, carrots, eggplant and scallions, all of which were available at Thursday’s opening of the Geneva Green Market on River Lane.
Rob Murphy of Curds & Whey Cheese Shoppe, which is inside Inglenook Pantry in Geneva, said he sells more than 30 types of cheese and has lots of recipes that he’s willing to share.
… For those who don’t like to cook, Lycan said starting in July, Niche Restaurant will offer meals made with produce from two local farms and the Geneva Green Market.
For the next three months, six-course tasting menus will be available from Tuesday through Friday. At least one item from the farms or market will be used in each course, Lycan said.
Just because we’re called the USGBC-Chicago Chapter doesn’t mean all our events are in Chicago! Join the Fox River Valley Suburban Committee at their first networking event. This is an open invitation to members as well as interested guests to learn more about the USGBC – Chicago Chapter, LEED, and upcoming Chapter initiatives. The main program speakers will be Doug Widener, Executive Director of the Chicago Chapter, and Laureen Blissard, current Chapter Chair. They will give an introduction to USGBC and an overview of the LEED Rating System.
