At Pushing the Envelope Farm we strive to practice the healthiest growing standards known in order to help protect the surrounding environment and all those that visit the farm: two legged, four legged, no legged, and winged. In addition to growing crops, we also grow farmers. All willing are welcome to come and volunteer on the farm to learn more about how to start and maintain their own garden.
For the 2010 growing season we will be growing over 120 varieties of 41 difference vegetables, as well as almost 40 varieties of herbs and flowers, all on one cultivated acre. Many of these will be sold at the local farmer’s market, but the main reason for growing the produce is to feed those in need of healthy, local, ‘organic’ vegetables. The R Family Farm raises Broad Breasted White turkeys and Bourbon Red turkeys. They get day old poults and raise them in brooders for 6 weeks, and then the turkeys all go out to the pasture in hoop houses to keep them safe from foxes. The hoop houses are moved every day to fresh grass.
All of their turkeys are fed a mixture of corn, roasted soybeans, kelp, flax, probiotics and other good things. They use NO hormones, No steroids, and NO antibiotics in our turkey feed for our turkeys. The turkeys are processed at an Amish federally inspected facility.
